Ras el hanout – king of moroccan spices

Ras El Hanout is a blend of spices that is native to Moroccan. Its name literally translates to “head of the store” and comprises Cinnamon, Cloves, Rose Petals, and Mace. It also contains various peppers, turmeric, and harissa and is often used to flavor roasted meats, vegetables, and seafood.

Its spicy, sour, and the earthy flavor works well with chicken maqluba, fish, and stew. You can simply grind some paprika and use ginger, ground coriander, and a pinch of salt to make a substitution. If you don’t have any of these, don’t worry – you can still find a smoky, aromatic blend online.
