The recipe is delicious no matter how it’s made, but there’s something about beet hummus that just feels fresh and exciting.
Maybe it’s because it just screams Springtime when you see it? Or maybe it’s because it just feels healthy when you eat it?
Since beets are a common ingredient of Middle Eastern cuisine, it is not a new idea to add them into traditional middle eastern recipes. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that they were added to hummus, one of my favorite dishes.
It gives it a deep color, richness in flavor and it is also healthier than most other variations! It will take less than 15 minutes for it all so don’t waste any time!
The best part of the beet hummus recipe is that there are no limits when adding flavors. So feel free to experiment with different ingredients like cinnamon, cumin, garlic, etc., to create your personal preference!
What Is Beet Hummus?
There are a few different ways to make a recipe for beet hummus. But the best way to mix mashed beetroot with homemade tahini sauce and lemon juice produce a really fresh-tasting dish.
To serve, spread onto some warm bread or pita. You can also use it as a dip for veggies or spread on toast for breakfast. The possibilities are endless!
Hummus can be eaten by scooping up small portions with pita bread or as part of an appetizer plate alongside various types of meze like falafel (chickpeas), tabouleh (parsley), cold mezze, Mutable, and babaganoush (eggplant).

In Arabic, hummus means chickpeas. In Israel, homemade hummus is a dip or spread made from cooked and mashed chickpeas with olive oil and other seasonings. Every culture has its own take on hummus, adding different spices such as cumin and coriander to give it an extra kick!

There are a couple of ways to serve beet hummus, such as as an appetizer or as a side dish recipe.
- Serving it on its own is probably better because of its bright colors, but you can also serve to garnish it with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a few sprigs of fresh mint.
- If you’re making it in advance, keep it in an airtight container in the fridge bring it, and serve immediately, do not let it keep for a long time at room temperature.
- Or you can prepare beet hummus up to 24 hours ahead and keep it refrigerated until needed.
- Used as spread, dips, sauce, and salad dressing.
- Best to serve before starting the meal.
- Served as an accompaniment or appetizer.
How To Store Of Beet Hummus?
Once you complete the recipe, the beet hummus is stored in an airtight container and kept in a refrigerator. And use it within three days.
You can also freeze it for up to one month. Freeze hummus in small amounts so you can defrost as needed and avoid spoilage.
Beet hummus is best served at a cooling temperature between 2 degrees C to 7 degrees C; when you’re ready to dig in, scoop a small amount onto crackers or pita bread and top with vegetables or chips for a delicious appetizer.
